Vince Wise is an ex-Detective, with over 30 years Policing experience with the Metropolitan and Hampshire Police. He served two secondments with the Force Stolen Vehicle Squad, as an Investigator and an Intelligence Development officer. After that he formed the Force Vehicle Desk within the Force Intelligence Bureau and started to engage with the issue around shipping containers and the organised crime element of the exporting stolen vehicles. Due to the results achieved there, he was seconded to AVCIS where he worked in the Port of Southampton for his last few years. In 2012 having left the Police force he continued to work in vehicle identification and recovery, on both a national and international level. Recognising the need to fill a knowledge gap, Vince wrote the Vehicle Identification course in 2013 which achieved IMI Quality Assured Programme status.

Course content & learning outcomes

Have a full understanding of the nature and extent of vehicle theft
Possess a working knowledge of DVLA registration system
To understand / interpret a vehicle chassis number
To be able to use PNC-VODS as an investigative tool
Understand ‘PNC Corruption’
Use / understand open-source databases relating to vehicles
Understand common ‘ringing’ methods (physical and paper)
To recognise fake or altered chassis numbers and plates
To be able to use a basic vehicle examiners tool kit
Possess a greater health and safety awareness re: vehicle examinations
To conduct a preliminary vehicle examination
Produce a written inspection report and evidential statement

Course Schedule

The course runs over 3 days and is a mix of theory and practical. Students are required to fill out a workbook and sit an end of course multiple-choice examination.

The cost of the course is £599 + VAT per delegate.
